Two rectangles 172 3/4 x 32 and 174 x 36 are laid out on large table. The rectangles have right angles and the correct web center distances.
Two blue angle plates are locked into position. The blue angle plates have one edge along the 32 inch web line. The other face of the blue angle plates are set back to account for attach plates.
In the case of the rear spar it is set back the 3/16 inch distance which accounts for the rear attach plate thickness . An additional distance which represents the thickness of the grey square which will eventually be clamped to the face of the attach plate.
The rear spar attach hole is to be centered on the grey square. The face of the rear attach plate sets one distance. The center of the rear attach plate sets the other distance.
The main distance is similar. One face of the blue angle plate is along the 32 inch line. The other face is set back the 1/4 inch distance to account for the thickness of the main spar attach plates.
two large rectangles laid out 172 3/4x32 and 174x36
layout two rectangles 172 3/4x32 and 174x36
Rear attach plate hole is centered on 172 3/4x32 grid
Main spar is locked in place offset by attach plate distance. Lathe bit sets main spar attach hole.
Main web is supported with wood set back cap strip distance using lathe bit
Main spar is locked in place in two directions
Main spar locked in place with angle set back attach plate distance
the blue angle is locked in place off of spar web line. The square should bisect attach holes.
Thickness of square + 3/16 for attach plate.
The blue angle is locked in place 3/16+square thickness off rear spar web line.
The square is locked to the angle. The sqaure is set back the thickness of the square plus 3/16 .
Rear spar long distance set by centering on attach holes
Main spar attach hole center is used to set main spar long distance
Rear spar has to be spaced up 1.34 inches.
Rear spar is set in long distance by centering on attach hole
The drill rod demonstrates that the attach holes are not concentric. Off by 1/2 inches
Sharpened drill rod demonstrates 1/2 offset. Drill rod is parallel to table.
